For this re-entry, the sports star couëronnaise Canoe-Kayak sports a new premise, in the sheds of the associative and cultural space of the lead Tower. Nine canoes and twenty-seven kayaks, one of which are in wood from the years 60, are stored in these 200 m 2. “We traditionally practise river kayaking, but in recent years the Sea Kayak has become the most important demand,” says Jocelyn Brillet, President of the section.
A part of the team has, for example, criss-crossed the Gulf of Morbihan last weekend. They sail regularly on the coasts of the Department and Brittany. “Sea kayaks even allow to place equipment in watertight boxes to go bivouac, in search of maritime heritage, such as the tour de l’île-aux-Moines, last year,” adds Jocelyn Brillet. This sport also requires a day and the amateurs find here a dimension of pure navigation, with nautical charts. Two places still give the possibility to bring beginners.
In this section, no competition, only leisure. No paddling school either. “For us, the Loire is dangerous with its current. So you have to have the habit. Without a State patent for the supervision of minors, the ESC Canoe-Kayak takes only major persons. “But initiations for the new members are taking place at the beginning of the season in protected places and by calm sea,” adds the President. It must also be thought that winter will often experience the motivations. »
Saturday, September 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., registrations (€70 membership, medical certificate and 25 m swimming patent). The Canoe-Kayak section will participate in the 100 years of the couëronnaise sports star, on the weekend of 25 and 26 September, with a demonstration of sea kayaking on the Loire.
